Kunhar river: PHC stops excavation of stones

PESHAWAR: The divisional bench comprising of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Qaiser Rashid and Justice Ijaz Anwar has imposed ban on excavation of stone for Soki Kinari Dam from Kunhar River and directed to manage from other sources, on Monday.

During hearing Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid remarked that rivers are mishandled which is unprecedented in rest of the countries. He also remarked that here parks are destroying for building commercial structures.

Chief Justice annoyed that if stones shall supplied from other places rather than Kunhar river it will damaged road and remarked that if roads are destroying let destroy it because it can be rebuild but environment and rivers shall not to damage or face any hazardous impact.

Director General Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Additional Advocate General Syed Sikandar Shah and Additional Director Mineral department appeared before PHC in the case.

Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid also remarked that dam laying in national interest, so environment is not matter of national interest and added that damage of environment has also consequences for leading to losses for country.

The two-member directed to manage stone from other place for dam while directed competent authorities to inform court in this regard and further hearing adjourned till date fixed.
