Kuwait: Ambassador summoned to the European External Action Service

F.P. Report

BRUSSELS: Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Stefano Sannino summoned Ambassador-designate of the State of Kuwait to the European Union Nawaf N. Alenezi on Thursday, to express EU’s regret over the execution of seven individuals in Kuwait on the day before. These executions also coincided with the visit of the Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas to the country.

Secretary-General Sannino reiterated the EU’s principled opposition to the death penalty under all circumstances. He emphasized that human rights issues are at the core of EU’s internal and external relations, and the EU will continue to raise its concerns regarding human rights situation with its Kuwaiti interlocutors at all levels and all occasions, including during the regular EU-Kuwait Human Rights Dialogue, which will take place next week.
