Landmine martyrs six children

MAZAR-E-SHARIF: A landmine allegedly planted by anti-government gunmen killed at least six children in northern Balkh province, police said Thursday.

“The mine emplaced by opponents detonated on children, martyring our six children,” said Sher Jan Durrani, spokesman of Balkh police.

He told media persons that the incident took place in Daulatabad, adding the landmines plante by anti-government gunmen on roads and ways always cause civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by 707th Pameer police zone in northeastern Afghanistan, said the explosion occurred close to a school in Hayatan area, claiming the life of six children belonging to three families.

It said the victims were between three and 10 years of age.
