Lavrov: Any war between nuclear powers unacceptable

NEW YORK (RIA Novosti): The transitional government formed by the Taliban does not reflect the entire palette of Afghan society, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“Apparently, we all need to make sure that these weapons are not used for non-constructive purposes,” he added.

Russia supports the determination of the Taliban to fight the Islamic State terrorist group in Afghanistan, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“The determination of the Taliban, which they declared, to fight ISIS and other terrorist groups, we will do our best to support,” he said.

As Lavrov noted earlier, the summit of the leaders of Russia and the United States in Geneva did not bring any radical changes and breakthroughs in relations, but it is still a positive event – the presidents reaffirmed their position on the inadmissibility of nuclear war, and also agreed on negotiations on arms control.

Moscow considers it necessary to remove restrictions on contacts between the Russian and US military, imposed by Congress, this will help not only de-conflict in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“This (deconflicting) mechanism is working. I draw your attention, by the way, that it works contrary to the legal prohibitions that the US Congress introduced on contacts between the military. to remove such restrictions, “Lavrov said.

“I think this will benefit not only the de-conflict in Syria, but also the development of our dialogue on arms problems in general,” the minister said.
