Lawyers continue protest in Multan on fourth day

F.P. Report

MULTAN: The protest of lawyers in favour of their rights entered fourth day in Lahore on Sunday.

The lawyers are demanding shifting of courts to the old Kutchery from the newly built judicial complex as it lacks facilities and release of their fellow colleagues.

On December 14, a large number of lawyers armed with clubs vandalised Multan s judicial complex in response to a protest call by the district bar association.

The lawyers smashed various structures, including windows and doors of the complex with sticks. They also damaged the tables, chairs, counters and other furniture while throwing away the court records.

The lawyers, including females, staged protest and chanted slogans against the authorities, saying that the courts were shifted to new Judicial Complex but there are no facilities.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered by the police against 39 lawyers — including Lahore High Court Bar Association-Multan President Sher Zaman Qureshi.

The FIR was registered under clause 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act along with Sections 16 of Maintenance of Public Order as well as 123 (b), 353, 186, 452 etc.
