At least 23 killed in fresh regime attacks in Syria

Monitoring Desk

EASTERN GHOUTA: At least 23 Syrian civilians, including six children, were killed in fresh regime attacks in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta on Wednesday, according to Syrian civil defense sources.

The sources told Anadolu Agency that casualty numbers are expected to rise as regime air and ground attacks continue.

According to Anadolu Agency reporters near the scene, regime forces have been conducting intensive ground and air attacks on the area since early morning.

A total of 97 civilians have been killed in regime attacks in the besieged area since Monday.

The attacks come despite that Eastern Ghouta falls within a network of de-escalation zones in which acts of aggression are prohibited.

Home to roughly 400,000 residents, Eastern Ghouta has remained under a crippling regime siege for the last five years.
