Legendary actor Ejaz Durrani passes away

LAHORE: Legendary Lollywood actor, Ejaz Durrani, known for his ‘Ranjha’ role in the film ‘Heer-Ranjha’ passed away in Lahore, on Monday. 

He was 86. Durrani was hospitalised for a least month. The funeral prayers of Durrani will be offered after namaz Zuhr and he will be buried in Lahore.

 Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar expressed grief over the sad demise of renowned actor Ijaz Durrani. The Chief Minister extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family.

Ejaz Durrani was most popularly known for his role of character Ranjha in the film Heer Ranjha (1970).

He gained immense popularity for the portrayal of Punjabi culture folk heroes from the epic love stories of the Punjab – Heer Ranjha and Mirza Sahiban.

Ejaz Durrani was born in a village in Jalalpur Jattan, Gujrat District in 1935. He was a film actor, director and producer active from 1956 to 1984. He was the first hero of Pakistani cinema who had a diamond jubilee film to his credit. 

He married actress and singer Noor Jehan but later they divorced. He had three daughters with her. They divorced and he later married film actress Firdous. His three daughters with Noor Jehan are Hina, Shazia and Nazia.
