ISLAMABAD: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan Monday informed that special legislation regarding new drug ice would be introduced as part of efforts to control use of narcotics in the country.
He was answering to a question in the National Assembly giving details of steps taken by the government against sale and purchase of the narcotics in the country.
The minister stated that 376 cases had been registered in the tenure of the incumbent government, moreover a comprehensive legislation would be introduced.
He said that special legislation regarding new drug “ice” was in pipeline and strict punishments would be given to the criminals involved in the sale and purchase of the drugs.
He said the government would play its role to eliminate the menace of drugs from the educational institutions and in this regard awareness campaign had been launched.
Moreover, all Sub-Divisional Magistrates were actively taking part in the said campaign in their respective area of jurisdiction; moreover sale of tobacco products was banned in the 100 meters radius of any educational institute. He said that three road shows for public awareness had been held till date by the district administration at F-10 Markaz, G-9 Markaz, Kashmir Highway and at G-11 Trafic Signals and booklets have been distributed.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said Islamabad city had 200 parks and the government was considering to install close circuit television cameras to keep an eye on sale of drugs and to protect children who visit parks.
