Legislation required in labour laws, says CM Jam Kamal

F.P. Report

QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan on Wednesday said legislation was required in labour laws, ARY News reporterd.

“We should acknowledge Labour Day in its true sense,” Jam Kamal said while talking to media.

He said the labourer held the status of backbone in development of an economy.

The chief minister said the sacrifices in Chicago were beacon of light. The labour union was fighting for the rights of labourers, he said.

“The world has made big development in labour union laws in comparison with Pakistan,” he said.

Labour day was observed across the world including Pakistan on Wednesday to highlight sacrifices and rights of labourers.

The theme of this year’s Labour Day was “Uniting Workers for Social and Economic Advancement”.

Labour unions organized seminars, rallies and parades where union leaders threw light on the importance of Labour Day.

Pakistan’s first labour policy was devised in 1972, in which May 1 was declared an official holiday.

This policy also formulated the creation of the Social Security Network, Old Age Benefit Schemes and Workers Welfare Fund.

Pakistan’s constitution also contains various provisions and articles about labour rights.
