ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad’s Local Government Commission allegedly accused Mayor Islamabad Sheikh Ansr Aziz of nepotism; irregularities in various government projects which cause billion losses to the national exchequer and handed over record of various projects to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to dig further the corruption a senior official of the commission told Frontier Post seeking anonymity.
On Thursday the commission meet here in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Ali Nawaz Awan advisor to Prime Minister on CDA affairs where the Chief Metropolitan officer Sayeda Shafaq Hashmi presented a reference against the Mayor Islamabad in corruption scam of Rs40 million in intercity bus terminal case following that after voting of members the chairman of the commission forwarded recommendation to the ministry of interior regarding suspension of mayor due to corruption scams the source further added.
It’s pertained to mentioned here that an inquiry committee formed to investigate corruption in various government projects pertaining under the District Municipal Administration (DMA) and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and the committee found irregularities, corruption and nepotism in various project as well missing of official record from the government office of the DMA.
The inquiry committee found financial scam in advertisements projects across the capital and noted that the country exchequer faced a billion loss in various advertisement drives in capital and severe irregularities found and ambiguities traced in advertisement drives the inquiry committee noted.
The chairman of the commission noted that the Islamabad DMA is more corrupt than Karachi municipal administration and added that strict legal action will be taken against the accused whose bank cheques were found bounced submitted in for recoveries.
The commission handed over the inquiry of cattle market to the Chief Metropolitan officer Syeda Shafaq Hashmi that why the cattle market auctioned was not done last year due to which the country exchequer faced a huge financial loss as well the commission shouldered responsibilities of upcoming cattle market auction to the same officer.
The source added that the commission noted that the BTS Tower, advertisement drives scam including the reasons of not performing auction of the cattle market should be forwarded to the investigative agency for digging the scam as well the commission is doing deliberation of putting the name of Mayor and Deputy Mayor Islamabad including other official names on the Exit Control List (ECL) till the findings of the inquiry.
