LHC stays recovery of 10% tuition fee from private law colleges

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday stayed recovery of ten per cent tuition fee from private law colleges by the Punjab University.

Justice Atir Mehmood passed the interim orders on a petition filed by 17 private law colleges against the step of recovering 10 percent tuition fee by Punjab University from private law colleges.

Private Law Colleges Association President Safdar Shaheen Pirzada argued before the court that all the private law colleges had paid registration fee and other dues to Punjab University in accordance with law.

He submitted that the university recently dema-nded the private law colleges to deposit 10 per cent of tuition fee received by them through a notification.

He contended that the step was in violation of law and the university could not demand private law colleges for deposit of 10 per cent of tuition fee. He contended that private law colleges impart education to students then how university could receive the tuition fee. He pleaded with court to set aside the notification being illegal.

The court, after hearing initial arguments, stayed the recovery of 10 per cent tuition fee and sought reply from the university.
