Light returns to Kabul as Baghlan pylon repaired

Monitoring Desk

PUL-I-KHUMRI: Electricity supply to central capital Kabul was restored on Sunday after the Taliban blew up pylons in northern Baghlan province halting the supply, an official said.

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) director in northern Baghlan province, Sultan Mohammad Azizi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban militants had destroyed the pylon with a bomb in Dushi district of the province. After the sabotage act, DABS dispatched a technical team to the area to repair the pylon. The team reconnected the 200 megawatt supply line to Kabul at around 5:40pm Sunday.

Earlier in the day, DABS said the Taliban had conditionally agreed to allow its technical team to repair the damaged pylon in Baghlan.

The Taliban wanted electricity for some villages in Dushi district and they agreed to the pylon’s repair after being assured of electrifying the villages.

In a statement, the Taliban said some areas of Baghlan were still deprived of electricity in breach of the government’s own commitments.
