Lithuania urges citizens to avoid travel to Afghanistan amid security concerns

KABUL (Khaama Press): Following the attack on foreign citizens in the Bamyan province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has described the security situation in Afghanistan as “unstable” and urged its citizens not to travel to the country.

The ministry issued a travel advisory on Tuesday, May 21, prohibiting Lithuanian citizens’ travel to Afghanistan.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises its citizens to refrain from travelling to Afghanistan due to “the highly unstable security situation and the high risk of terrorist attacks in the country.”

On Thursday, May 17, a group of foreign tourists and non-combatants in Bamyan province came under armed attack, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including three Spanish citizens, and injuries to seven others.

The responsibility for this attack, claimed by the ISIS group, has sparked a wave of national and international reactions.

Earlier, several foreign countries, including Spain, had banned their citizens from travelling to Afghanistan.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the armed attack in Bamyan, challenging the Taliban’s assertion of providing security nationwide. Despite the Taliban’s denial of ISIS’s presence in the country, ISIS poses a significant challenge to the current Taliban regime, contesting their claim to governance.
