Local govt to establish 100 public libraries in Mardan

MARDAN: City Mayor Mardan Himayat Ullah Mayar said that knowledge is obtained from books and experiences, nowadays it is the age of digital and social media, so we must update the books as well. He said further that City Local Government will establish one hundred libraries in Mardan Mosques and Houses so that people can take benefit from them.

This he said while addressing participants of Book Fair organized by Divisional and District Administration Mardan with the support of National Book Foundation at Pakhtunkhwa House. He added that these libraries will be further expanded in near future.

Secretary Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anila Mahfooz Durrani has said that books are like a good friend and teacher, they guide us best and through it we learn. She said that in the Holy Qur’an, Allah says that acquiring knowledge is a duty for every Muslim man and woman. Anila said further that Knowledge can be acquired only through books, due to modern technology students have abandoned the habit of reading non-textbooks apart from textbooks due to which their mental capacity is weakening.

Commissioner Mardan Division Yusuf Rahim, City Mayor Mardan Himayat Ullah Mayar, Deputy Commissioner Mardan Captain (R) Abdul Rehman, Director Elementary and Secondary Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Khan also addressed the ceremony. Deputy Commissioner Swabi Furqan Ashraf, Additional Commissioner Mardan Naeem Akhtar, DPO Swabi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mardan Finance, ACs, Additional Assistant Commissioners, President Zahir Shah of Mardan Traders Association, students and a large number of people participated in the ceremony.

In his address, Commissioner Mardan Division Yusuf Rahim said that due to the use of electronic and digital devices, we are moving away from books and activities like book fairs should br welcomed to return us to the books. Public libraries in Mardan Division will be developed and the number of books will be increased in them, apart from this the book fairs will also be organized to overcome the lack of tendency to read books to encourage the people especially the youth to reading the books.

In this regard weekly book reviews will be organized in schools and colleges, and writing and quiz competitions will also be organized, said Yusuf Rahim. Deputy Commissioner Mardan Abdul Rahman said in his address at the event that the aim of the book fair is to restore the book culture, no nation can develop without knowledge. Due to the use of media and gadgets, this habit is becoming less due to which the ability to analyze and think has been greatly damaged and the intelligence has become weak, said DC Mardan. He said that there is a great need to promote the culture of book reading and practical steps will be taken in this regard soon.

At the end of the event, Secretary Higher Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anila Mahfouz Durrani, Commissioner Mardan Division Yousuf Rahim, City Mayor Mardan Himayat Ullah Mayar and Deputy Commissioner Mardan Abdul Rahman officially inaugurated the Mardan Book Fair by cutting the ribbon and Inspected the book stalls set up by the organizers.

Child critically injured by transmission line: A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured after hitting a power transmission line near Jhande Tablighi Center while he climbed up on electric pole in chasing of his pigeon.

Rescue 1122 officials confirmed that 13-year-old Luqman fell down after electric shock near Jhande bazar. They said the boy was chasing his pigeon and climbed us to electric pole for catching his pigeon but suddenly electric transmission line shocked him and fell down unconscious to the ground. The Rescue 1122 ambulance and medical team rushed up to reached the spot and rescued.
