LRH treats 300 children suffered from typhoid

PESHAWAR: The largest pedriatic unit of the province is the leading facility to treat multi drug resistance typhoid free of cost.

According to the spokesperson Muhammad Asim, LRH pediatric unit admitted and treated more than 300 children suffered from drug resistant Typhoid in the month of June.

“Treatment of one child costs more than 50000 rupees for 5 days while all the treatment including laboratory tests and medicines have been provided free of cost by the hospital”, said Associate Professor Dr. Afshan Khattak, chairperson pediatric unit of the LRH MTI. She said that Typhoid among children is a serious emerging disease that is preventable through vaccination.

Dr. Afshan khattak said that other than treatment of the typhoid affected children LRH pedriatrics unit plans to hold public awareness sessions and seminars for professionals regarding typhoid in children.

She added that mass vaccination is the only way forward towards eradication of this serious issue.

The spokesman further said that the Chairman BOG LRH MTI Prof. Nausherwan Khan Burki recently visited pediatric unit couple of times and extends great support to pediatric unit in terms of bed capacity and free treatment for sick children.

He said that LRH pedriatrics is the largest pedriatics services in the province with 200 beds capacity including 60 nursery and 60 emergency beds.

Asim added that LRH paediatic unit also provides free treatment to more than 100 children suffering from diarrhea and dehydration on daily basis.

He said that pediatric team consists of senior and junior doctors including nurses and paramedics seeing more than 600 children in emergency on daily basis from all over the province, more than any other territory care hospital.
