Mastermind of deadly base attack killed: NDS

KABUL: The Afghan intelligence claims that the main mastermind of a deadly attack on a security base in central Maidan Wardak province has been killed in an operation.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said the mastermind of the attack identified as commander Neman was killed along with seven other militants during an aistrike in Maidan Shahr late on Tuesday night.

The statement further added that Neman’s location was identified by the intelligence operatives and an airstrike was killed in to eliminate him and his companions.

NDS also added that the remaining orchestrators of the would also be identified and eliminated in the near future.

The Afghan intelligence on Tuesday confirmed that 36 security personnel embraced martyrdom and 58 others were wounded in a coordinated attack on a security base in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said the suicide bomber managed to breach the security barrier by driving a Humvee armored personnel carrier packed with explosives and detonate it near the main building of the base.

The statement further added that three other militants who were looking to detonate another vehicle-borne improvised explosive device and carry out shooting spree after the first explosion, were shot dead and the car bomb was defused. (Khaama Press)
