Maulana Fazl’s brother appears before NAB in assets case

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: Ziaur Rehman, brother of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, said on Tuesday that he had answered all the questions and presented all proofs and documents to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in his defence against charges of having assets beyond sources of income, making illegal recruitments and misusing power.

The NAB’s investigation team is also interested in knowing about his alleged illegal recruitment in Provincial Management Service in 2007.

Talking to the media outside NAB Peshawar’s office, he said since he was a government servant he could not divulge details of his case. “Leaking details of questions asked by Bureau’s team and the answers given by me are a violation of code of conduct,” he argued. “You better ask NAB team about today’s questioning,” he advised media.

Earlier, the NAB questioned Zia for one-and-a-half hour. The first notice the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Peshawar had issued to Ziaur Rehman, a grade-19 officer, on August 21, 2020 to appear for questioning in graft cases on August 25.

The bureau had launched inquiries against him over his alleged involvement in illegal appointments and corruption in sale and purchase of government machinery during his appointment as Commissioner Afghan Refugees (CAR) KP.

Last month, the Sindh government had appointed Ziur Rehman the deputy commissioner of Karachi’s Central district, stirring controversy as opposition parties raised objections to his appointment and called for his removal at once.
