F.P. Report

LAHORE: The visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) players and officials visited the historic 17th century Lahore Fort, here on Tuesday.

The foreign cricketers, led by MCC President Captain Kumar Sangakara, expressed their awe of the grandeur of the architecture and the rich history of the Fort.

The visitors were briefed about various periods including the Mughal era (1519–1767), Sikh era  (1799–1849) and the British empire (1849–1947) and shown different parts of the Fort.

The cricketers evinced keen interest in various parts like Sheesh Mahal, Diwan-e-Khas, Picture Wall and Summer Palace.

Sangakara admired the majestic architecture of the Fort and the aesthetics of the Mughal emperors, adding that he felt himself to be transported to the era of the Mughals when the mighty Mughals ruled India.

He also heaped praise on the use of lights in the Sheesh Mahal, saying that such relics of time were a proof of the artistic advance of the Mughal rulers.

The visiting cricketers were also given a tour of the ‘Rangeela Rickshaw’ – rickshaw painted and decorated in traditional truck art design – which they enjoyed a great deal.

The MCC team would play the last twenty20 match of their tour against Multan Sultans at the Aitchison College on Wednesday (tomorrow).
