Media playing essential role in collecting aid

KABUL (TOLOnews): Officials in the Islamic Emirate say that media reports in the country have played an essential role in collecting aid for the refugees deported from Pakistan.

The spokesman of the Islamic Emirate told TOLOnews that depicting the gaps and problems faced by newly returned refugees by the media has helped the aid process.

However, some analysts also consider the role of the media to be important and effective in covering the moment-to-moment arrival of refugees and the coherence of aid to them.

Following the part of the special debate program of TOLOnews with the participation of the officials of the Islamic Emirate, the private sector and some analysts and aid activists, referencing the coherence of public aid and aid institutions for the forcibly deported refugees from Pakistan, said the officials in the Islamic Emirate consider the role of the media important in order to organize the collection and delivery of aid to the large number of recently returned refugees.

Zabihullah Mujahid, in a conversation with TOLOnews said that the media has played an important role in regulating the affairs of the refugees by broadcasting various aspects of the problems of refugees.

“Our country’s media followed up on the issue of refugees in a very responsible way.

All our television channels, all our media and radio tried very hard in the area of seeking help and in the area of listening to complaints, and had good reports,” Zabihullah Mujahid said.

At the same time, the Ministry of Economy, which is responsible for the coordination of emergency aid to refugees, emphasized that it is implementing programs in various sectors, including attracting and collecting aid and settling refugees.

“Different committees that have been formed in this direction have taken important steps in attracting and collecting aid, as well as the issue of housing and shelter, and also making important programs to create employment in the private and public sectors, related to the capacities among our refugees,” said Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy minister of economy.

Some analysts considered the wide coverage of the arrival effective, and said the highlighting the challenges of refugees deported from Pakistan was important, particularly their emphasizing the importance of the media.

“Thanks to the blessings of our country’s media, they make everyone aware of how the refugees entered Afghanistan, what they are doing, what they are eating and what their health status is, whether they are well or not,” said Ahmad Ferdaws Behgazin, an economic analyst.

Officials in the Islamic Emirate, referring to the effectiveness of the assistance provided by aid organizations and businessmen for the refugees deported from Pakistan, also announced the creation of two bank accounts that are collecting cash donations from inside and outside Afghanistan.

Eleven days have passed since the beginning of the deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan. According to statistics, more than 200,000 people have returned to Afghanistan from various ports from Pakistan.
