Mengal refuses to become part of constitutional amendment

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD :  Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Saturday refused to become part of the much-touted proposed constitutional amendment by saying that his party won’t be a party in the passage of the constitutional amendment, which he claimed, was being “forcefully” pushed through.

Speaking to media after meeting Jamiat-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to mull over constitutional amendment, he said that constitution wasn’t a secret document and it was right of every citizen and political parties to get to know about any tweaks in the constitution.

“The question is who is orchestrating this move of bringing constitutional amendment,” he said in a thinly-veiled reference to powers that be.

Mengal blamed former military rulers for behaving in the same forceful manner to get elected in managed referendums.

He regretted that the MNAs didn’t have any prestige left as they were picked up by the unknowns for asserting their wills, mentioning that he won’t become part of the constitutional amendment till the release of his party MNAs.
