Miandad slams BCCI, says ICC is not ‘Indian Cricket Council’

F.P. Report

KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad has slammed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for attempting to isolate Pakistan from this year’s World Cup and added ICC does not stand for “Indian Cricket Council” and that it represents all cricket playing nations.

His comments come after, reports of BCCI drafting a letter to the cricket’s governing body on banning Pakistan from the 2019 World Cup, scheduled to be held in England and Wales in May.

“ICC will not accept this foolish and childish move by BCCI, Miandad said while speaking to APP. “There is absolutely no chance of ICC listening to BCCI as its constitution allows members the right to participate in its events.”

He added ICC knows what is best for the game. Miandad, who is known for his historic last ball big six against India in 1986 in the Sharjah Cup, also lashed out at ex-Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly’s statement to cut-off all sporting ties with Pakistan.

“I think Sourav wants to run for elections in the coming days or wants to become the chief minister as it is just a publicity stunt to gain the attention of his country mates,” he said.

The 61-year-old added, that despite India suspending the Pakistan Super League in the aftermath of the February 14 Pulwama attack, it has not stopped the tournament from flourishing. “We should not bother with India’s cowardly acts instead we must focus on improving ourselves,” he said.

“Pakistan has always offered India a peaceful resolution of the issues but Indians have always responded in negative,” he added.

Miandad further said selectors must closely observe the ongoing tournament to pick consistent performers and potential new players for the World Cup. About the thin attendance in the matches, Miandad said the relevant administration and sponsors must introduce more incentives to attract crowd and entry must be made free for Pakistani workforce there.

He added, the Pakistan Cricket Board must consider this proposal to bring more spectators as playing among huge crowd helps sustain pressure, most essential component to polish players.
