Miftah says govt trying hard to improve economic situation

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said that the government is trying to improve the economic condition of the country while underlining that the financial pressure has increased keeping in view the epic destruction wreaked by the recent floods, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The finance minister met with Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman in Lahore on Monday and discussed the flood and economic situation in the province.

Miftah said that the rehabilitation of flood affectees was the top priority of the coalition government. He boasted that federal and provincial governments and all state institutions were on the same page in this regard.

“Though the economic pressure is rising in the wake of floods but due to sagacious government policies, our economy is heading in the right direction,’ the finance minister pronounced.

The governor told Miftah that the vice-chancellors of Punjab universities and Red Crescent volunteers were taking part in the rescue and relief efforts in the flood-hit areas.

He further said that a medical team from the University of Health Sciences had also been dispatched to the areas affected by the deluge. Though it’s a difficult time but country’s economic indicators are showing positive signs.

Finance Minister Miftah said that the government had saved the country from default adding that ‘under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the entire cabinet and government is trying hard to give relief to people’. He rued that the government had to make hard decisions in order to save the country from default.

He also announced that the government would make the import of auto parts easy to promote the industry of locally manufactured tractors.
