Militants suffer heavy casualties in operations

KABUL: The anti-government armed militants have suffered heavy casualties during the ongoing operations in western Farah province, the defense officials said Tuesday.

The officials further added that a total of twenty six militants were killed during the air and ground operations in the past 24 hours.

Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense Gen. Mohammad Radmanish told reporters that twelve of the militants were killed in the center of Farah, Bala Bolok, and Khak Safid districts of the province.

Gen. Radmanish further added that 6 militants were killed in Tarinkot city of Uruzgan, 4 militants in Greshk district of Helmand, and 3 militants in Pashtun Kot district of Faryab.

He said at least twenty militants were also wounded and nineteen others including seventeen suspects were rounded up during the operations.

According to Gen. Radmanish, the Afghan forces also discovered and defused 38 improvised explosive devices during the operations.

He said at least eleven offensive operations are underway in ten provinces of the country and the Afghan Special Forces have conducted 69 raids in some provinces while 6 airstrikes were also carried out.
