Military’s role in nation-building

The Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, has expressed unwavering commitment that Pakistan Army, as a National Army, will leave no stone unturned to contribute to the cause of national security and development. On New Year’s Eve, the Pakistan Army expressed its resolve that no one can defeat the spirit of Pakistan as the people and armed forces of Pakistan are the ones.

Pakistan Army is the nation’s most disciplined, highly organized, well-trained, and responsive institution. Its primary mission is the defence and security of the country; however, it has been called upon for jobs which were well beyond the scope of its duties. Being an ideological and national Army, it remained committed to defending the country’s geographical territories while upholding the Country’s Islamic ideology. During the last seven decades of Pakistan’s history, the Pakistan Army fought three major battles with its eternal adversary besides a decades-long military conflict in Siachen Glacier and a sameer civil insurgency in Balochistan. Pakistan military also fought a successful battle against terrorism in Erstwhile FATA since 2003.

Besides, accomplishment of the primary task and professional commitments, Pakistan Army played a significant role during natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, locust attacks and the coronavirus pandemic. Pakistan’s Military remained available to the government at times of need for maintenance of law and order, national census, election duty, desalination of the irrigation system, recovery of the WAPDA and polio vaccination security throughout the past.

The Pakistan Army and its sub-sideries organizations including NLC, FWO and SCO remained at the forefront in nation-building, the construction of roads, and bridges, the provision of educational and communication facilities in certain areas such as Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, FATA and Balochistan. Currently, military leadership is playing a vital role in the SIFC for the economic revival of the country. Undoubtedly, Pakistan’s military is endeavouring hard to implement the dreams and aspirations of the nation in all domains. Hopefully, Pakistan will emerge as a successful nation in the future.
