Minister emphasizes on eradication of narcotics

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Minister for Labour, Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Haji Manzoor Khan Afridi, while appreciating the performance of the Excise Department, has clarified that the eradication of drugs, especially ice, from the province should be the topmost priority because it has endangered the future of our younger generation and also has put our society in jeopardy.

He issued these instructions while chairing an introductory meeting on performance of Excise Department at Directorate General Excise on Shami Road Peshawar. On this occasion, Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Adeel Shah gave a detailed briefing to the caretaker minister on the department’s administrative affairs, achievements and ongoing reforms in the department.

Manzoor Afridi clarified that the role of Excise and Narcotics Control Department in anti-narcotics is highly commendable.

He said that it is the duty of the department to pay equal attention to ice drugs production, supply and use in all three sectors so that the complete elimination of this monster from the society is ensured and the future of the nation is secured.

Similarly, he said that the excise department has a key role in the revenue of the province. Hence he said special measures should be taken to improve the efficiency of excise in all districts, while all the officers should work honestly and diligently to achieve the revenue targets by June, he added.

Manzoor Afridi said that the process of reward and punishment of KP government will be strictly implemented. All resources will be used for supremacy of merit and elimination of corruption. He said that we as a team have to present the excise department as a model department. Maximum relief and all possible facilities have to be given to the people.

The Excise Minister reiterated his commitment to eliminate the scourge of drugs from the society and issued instructions for comprehensive operations, especially against narcotic ice. He also clarified that excise officers should set goals for anti-narcotics as well as maximum tax revenue and work round the clock together with a team spirit to achieve them all.
