Model Town case: ATC issues arrest warrants for former DIG operations

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court hearing Model Town case has issued arrest warrants against former Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Rana Abdul Jabbar on Wednesday.

ATC directed the officials to present the police officer on Thursday (tomorrow) after DIG Rana failed to show up before the court.

Earlier on Friday, the ATC had indicted as many as 116 police officers, including Rana Abdul Jabbar, who had not appeared before the court.

It is to be mention here that at least 14 people were killed while 100 others were injured in police action against Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers in Lahore’s Model Town area during an ‘anti-encroachment operation’ on June 17, 2014.

Last week on April 8, Chief Justice Nisar had taken suo motu notice after an affectee Bisma, who lost her mother in the incident, requested CJP to intervene.

Later Supreme Court had ordered the ATC to hear the Model Town killing case on a daily basis, in a bid to wind it up at a swift pace.

The apex court also ordered that Justice Ali Baqar Najafi’s report into the 2014 Model Town killings be made a part of the court’s records.
