KABUL: The first coordination meeting of (Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan) RECCA Ambassadors in 2019 and the inauguration of RECCA Research and Evaluation Center was held in Kabul on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

The event was attended by acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani, government officials, and foreign ambassadors to Kabul, MoFA’s statement said.

Speaking at the conference, Rabbani thanked the regional countries for their support, counted the regional cooperation as significant and deemed Afghanistan a regional hub.

Regional cooperation results instability and economic growth, Rabbani added.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation Adela Raz also recalled the achievements under the regional cooperation framework in 2018 in various sectors, namely TAPI in Energy and Chabahar and Lapis Lazuli route in transportation sectors.

The Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) was established in 2005 and is engaged in sectors such as energy, transportation, trade and transit facilitation, connectivity, expansion of cooperation among the member countries’ private sector, and dispatching laborers.

The Center’s establishment was proposed during the RECCA-VII Ministerial Meeting back in November 2017 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and thereby approved.

The center aims to develop the research capacity, expand the project-based cooperation, assist in policy development, and grow investments on a regional level.

The 8th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan Ministerial Meeting (RECCA-VIII) is due to be held in Tashkent hosted by Uzbekistan in the second half of 2019. (TOLOnews)
