Mohammad Khan calls for launch of e-NIC distribution

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The First Deputy of the Chief Executive of the Unit Government Eng. Mohammad Khan has called for the launch of the electronic National Identity Cards (e-NIC) distribution.

This comes as controversies surround the distribution of the electronic National Identity Cards with the Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah opposing with the start of the process as he insists for a national consensus and nationwide agreement to prevent further chaos.

However, Eng. Khan believes there is no issue left for the launch of the electronic National Identity Cards distribution.

Deputy Chief Executive’s media advisor Safi Omar Khel says the stance of the First Deputy Chief Executive is clear as he believes the issue has been passed by the cabinet as well as the parliament.

He said Eng. Khan calls for the immediate launch of the electronic National Identity Cards distribution.

This comes as a joint parliamentary commission approved a presidential decree to pave the way for the start of the process late in December last year.

The decree by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was issued to modify the controversial article#6 of the census law which prevented the launch of electronic national identity cards distribution since a long period of time.

The decree stated that the nationality of the ID card holders should be mentioned as Afghan while the religion should also be reflected in the card as Islam.
