CAPE TOWN (Agencies): Pace bowler Mohammed Siraj in a destructive display of pace bowling claimed a six-fer to help India book South Africa for a meagre 55 in the first innings of the second Test at Newlands Cricket Ground.
Siraj claimed brilliant bowling figures of 6-17, while his new-ball partner Jasprit Bumrah returned with 2-25 to destroy South African batting lineup.
South African skipper Dean Elgar opted to bowl first in his farewell Test, however, Siraj turned it into a nightmare with a brilliant spell with the new ball.
Siraj clean-bowled Elgar (4) with a late swinger after dismissing Aiden Markram (2) in his previous over, reducing South Africa to 8-2.
Jasprit Bumrah joined the party and dismissed debutant Tristan Stubbs (3) as Indian captain Rohit Sharma pouched him at short leg.
Siraj got Tony de Zorzi caught behind before David Bedingham (12) and Kyle Verreynne (15) stitched South Africa’s highest partnership of 19 runs.
Siraj then removed Bedingham and new batter Marco Jansen in the same over before dismissing Verreynne in the next over.
Mukesh Kumar then picked the final two wickets without conceding any run to wrap the innings at 55.
