MoI cancels arms licenses of unregistered firms, individuals

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior on Sunday said only those individuals and companies who are registered as taxpayers with the Ministry of Finance would be allowed to carry weapons.

A MoI statement received by Pajhwok Afghan News said thousands of people carried weapons under the excuse of threats to their safety while hundreds others daily applied for arms license.

The interior ministry said only those individuals would be allowed in future to carry weapons who are registered as taxpayers with the Ministry of Finance.

There are three levels of taxpayers — high, medium and small level—registered with the Ministry of Finance, the statement said.

“Individuals and companies which are not in the list of taxpayers in the Ministry of Finance, their weapons licenses would be canceled and new licenses would be not issued until the applicants clear their taxes”, the ministry added.

The MoI added the move was aimed at increasing national revenue and exposing ‘hidden’ and ‘unidentified sources’ in the financial system of Afghanistan.
