Mother’s Day and coronavirus

Sehar Sajjad

Mother is a blessing. Words can not describe the love and affection that we all receive from our mothers. During the past five months, covid-19 has deprived a number of people from their mothers. So many mothers being their children’s heaven have actually moved to the heavens without saying a single word of love… not even good-bye. It is surely a moment of lament. However, this year, mother’s day is obviously different from the past and unfortunately, people around the world are not able to visit their mothers or have such celebrations as they used to do every year.

There are so many people who have not seen their mother since the lockdown announced but thanks to all the video calling services that assist people to stay in touch with their loved ones. The globe is under depression and honestly, nobody knows how far this depression will go. But with the passage of time, people learn to live whatever the circumstances are. Rather than playing the blame game all the time, we should make grounds for realities and good times and should make an effort to see them done.

No doubt this year is tough to handle and we all were not prepared for it and the majority of us have experienced the lockdown the very first time in our lives. But, in this night of darkness, we must wait patiently for the sunrise and should follow the protocols that are necessary to pass through this dark night. Of course, nations can not and should not survive only on hopes and prayers but the heart can. We are and we must be concerned about the novel virus and the only way to avoid it is to stay home.

A memory of last year’s mother’s day might strike you especially to those who are far away from their mothers. All the grandmothers, mothers, and mother figures may miss the handmade cards, flowers, cakes, treats, and celebrations of this day but we can promise each other to live and survive this pandemic and will have a great time together.

While talking about mothers, I pay huge respect and honor to those ones who are out for their children or for the nation. Well, there are so many doctors who are sacrificing their lives during this outbreak and a number of mothers and single mothers who work day and night to guarantee a secure life for their children.

The touch, voice, and command of the mother can never be replaced. In this materialistic world, the only place where one can rest without any fear is the lap of his mother.

No matter you are a child or a grown-up, you always seek your mother beside you whenever you feel distressed.

Apart from these soft words, there is a brutal truth and we can not close our eyes to it. Mothers are being tortured, raped, harassed, and killed by their own men who made them mothers, they themselves deprive the mothers of their own children in the name of honor killing and for the sake of their mental satisfaction. Pakistan is seeking interest in more advanced and civilized ways of living. Perhaps, the leaders should take notice of these incidents if they truly want a peaceful and secure living environment.

Being a true Pakistani, all we can do is hope because we are just left with it. A safe and healthy atmosphere is the right of each and every person and the government should ensure to make it for all. Again, I hope that we all will have a better mother’s day with our beloved and beautiful mothers, and may God bless all the mothers out there.
