Mujahid says leaked Pentagon document by US is propaganda

KABUL (Khaama Press): The de facto administration on Sunday said that the leaked documents are propaganda that Daesh is using the country to plot and coordinate terror attacks against the US and its allies.
The Taliban senior spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that the US Department of Defense is part of a continuing propaganda campaign.
“Some Western media published reports that a certified document of the US Ministry of Defense shows that Afghanistan has become a so-called centre of terrorism; we strongly reject this claim,” Mujahid tweeted. He also said that Daesh and other militant groups “have been severely affected and are in the process of being destroyed” in the country.
“It is obvious that the spread of such biased reports shows that some people in America have not forgotten their hatred and enmity with the people of Afghanistan,” he added.
Earlier this week, leaked Pentagon documents claimed that Afghanistan had become a significant coordination hub for Daesh to plan attacks across Europe and Asia and engages in “aspirational plotting” against the US, Washington Post reported.
The document also claimed that the attack planning exposes deliberate efforts to hit embassies, churches, business hubs and the FIFA World Cup football competition, which drew more than 2 million fans last summer in Qatar. Pentagon authorities were informed of such plots on December 9; Daesh leaders in Afghanistan orchestrated these plots.
The leaked documents stressed the growing threat posed by Daesh in Afghanistan. However, there is no indication of a rebirth of al-Qaeda, as many counterterrorism experts had expected would happen following the US withdrawal.
