Murad for timely drainage of rainwater in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah issued directives to municipal and other institutions to ensure coordinated efforts to address issues related to rainwater drainage and traffic management during the ongoing rains.

The chief minister directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and cantonment boards to carry out coordinated efforts to ensure effective rainwater drainage and facilitate citizens.

CM Murad also directed the Transport Department has expedited work on the Red Line Corridor project to alleviate the difficulties faced by residents of Gulshan Iqbal and Taimur Nagar.

He directed the Traffic Police to be more active in managing traffic in Karachi especially in areas where uplift works are being carried out to avoid difficulties for citizens. He also emphasised the need for better traffic management in areas where development work is underway.

CM Sindh informed about encroachment on lakes

Advisor to CM Sindh on Livestock and Fisheries Syed Najmi Alam has said that Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah had been informed about the encroachments of fresh water lakes by private people.

These lakes and fishermen who had been issued licenses by the Sindh Fisheries Department have the right to catch fish, said Advisor to CM on Livestock and Fisheries Syed Najmi Alam during a meeting with a delegation of fishermen led by Pakistan Fisherfolk Chairman Mehran Ali Shah in his office.

The delegation of Pakistan Fisherfolk told the Provincial Adviser that the influential people had captured the water of Kakahu area and Chotiari Dam in Sanghar and evicted the local fishermen while in Badin district, LBOD had once again destroyed fertile lands and fresh water fish ponds and lakes where millions of acres of land have been submerged and all fish species have been wiped out.

In the meeting, Director General Fisheries Sindh Inland Zulfiqar Ali Larak was instructed by the provincial adviser to contact the district administration in this regard and bring these issues to their attention and also inform them under the paperwork in this regard.

Adviser Alam said that we will not allow injustice to the fishermen of Sindh, we have asked the Sindh government along with the federal government to take practical steps to give the fishermen labor status. He said that MQM is talking about the problems of fishermen to shine their politics, they have not done anything for fishermen during their government, we will solve all the problems of fishermen under the leadership of our current Sindh government party leadership, especially Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
