ISLAMABAD: Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan Thursday inaugurated a tree plantation campaign titled “Ghar Ghar Aik Shajar” by planting a sapling at premises of the Ministry here.
“The purpose of this campaign is to create awareness among masses, under which volunteer university students will go door to door in different sectors of the Federal Capital and distribute saplings for plantation,” he said while launching the drive.
He said the climate change was a very threatening issue for Pakistan, adding the plantation drive would help create awareness among masses about their responsibility to make the surrounding clean and green. “A plant grown in a house is more protected as compared to on roads and grounds. So, the door to door distribution of plants will increase the survival rate. We can combat the climate change issue effectively, if it is taken seriously at international, national and individual level,” he said. As many as 10,000 plants would be provided to citizens under the campaign, in which more than 100 volunteer students from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamic International University, Bahria University and National
University of Science and Technology would participate.
This campaign is targeted to complete in the current months. While, under second phase of the drive, plants would be distributed among children in public schools of Islamabad so they could plant them in their homes. Following which, a closing ceremony would be organized in March to acknowledge efforts of the students in making the drive successful.
