Muttaqi discusses issues with Turkmenistan officials

KABUL (TOLOnews): The acting foreign minister of the Islamic Emirate during on his visit to Turkmenistan said that Afghanistan can now use the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, which would connect Afghan trade to Europe.
Amir Khan Muttaqi discussed a number of trade and diplomatic issues with Turkmenistan officials.
The TAPI project, the railway, and other issues were discussed during the meetings. “We discussed important issues such as TAPI, railways and the increase in importing electricity to Afghanistan,” said Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting minister of foreign affairs.
Amir Khan Muttaqi said that an agreement has been made with Turkmenistan to allow Afghanistan to use the Lapiz Lazuli corridor through Turkmenistan.
Lapiz Lazuli is a major international project that connects Turkmenistan with Europe.
“Both countries want to play an important role in the region. And we can use the Lapiz Lazuli Corridor which passes through Turkmenistan,” said Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting minister of foreign affairs.
Officials at Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) said that Afghanistan’s business with Turkmenistan is of great importance and he added that the expansion of trade and economic relations with the country will benefit Afghanistan.
“Turkmenistan’s experience with oil and gas is important. They can invest in the north of Afghanistan,” said Khan Jan Alokozay, a member of the ACCI’s board of directors.
According to the statistics of the ministry of commerce and industry, Afghanistan-Turkmenistan trade in 2023 reached $481 million, of which $477 million was in imports.
