NAB chairman approves three corruption references

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to file three new corruption references on Thursday.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the executive board held under the chair of NAB chairman Justice (retd.) Javed Iqbal.

The executive board has approved to initiate two inquiries over alleged financial irregularities by former secretary communication Ghulam Muhammad and former director general Larkana Development Authority Asghar Sheikh, a notification said.

Three new references will be filed by the anti-graft watchdog against former health minister Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Haji Gulbaz and others.

On March 12, the NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal had said 303 billion rupees recovered from corrupt elements and deposited into the national exchequer.

“The NAB considers eradication of corruption from the country its prime responsibility,” Justice Javed Iqbal said while addressing a business community event. He said the country would be prosperous, if the business community would be prosperous.

He had also vowed to bring back home “all the plunderers of national wealth” who had ‘fled abroad’.

He had said that they would bring all the looters and plunderers of public funds to justice. The NAB chairman had termed corruption a major hurdle in country’s progress and development.

He had said that the NAB realized its responsibility and added that the watchdog actively playing its role in making Pakistan a corruption-free state.
