NAB files reference against blackmailers’ group

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday filed a 630-page reference against a ‘blackmailers’ group, including prime accused Tayyaba Gul and Farooq Noll, for blackmailing its chairman Javed Iqbal and other persons.

Meanwhile, an accountability court in Lahore has issued notices to the accused persons to appear before the court on June 17. Besides, an investigation officer has also been summoned in the case.

According to sources, 36 witnesses have recorded their statements before the NAB against the accused persons, while six complaints against Tayyaba Gul were received by the bureau.

Earlier on Thursday, the NAB had denied that a series of audio clips aired by a private TV channel have anything to do with its chairman by stating them as “baseless, fake and based on lies.”

The accountability watchdog had said that it has “not only already arrested two members of the blackmailing group but also approved the filing of references against them”.

The bureau, in its press release, said that the purpose of the audio clips was to “damage the goodwill of NAB and its chairman”.
