NAB to probe contracts awarded by Safdar

ISLAMABAD: The anti-graft body in the country will soon launch probe into the corruption allegations regarding contracts awarded by Captain (retired) Safdar.

The son-in-law of the ex-PM Nawaz Sharif is accused of Rs 3 billion corruption. He is alleged of favouritism in terms of awarding contracts for development projects.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal himself ordered the inquiry into the case. He took notice of irregularities worth Rs 2 billion in the contracts of development projects of Rs 3 billion.

NAB Chairman assured to restore the financial resources lost by the state in such corruption scandals.

Justice (retd) Iqbal vowed that the inquiry into petitions against Capt (retd) Safdar will be transparent as all standards of merit and law will be maintained. “Those responsible will be punished,” he added.

Captain (r) Safdar, Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif reappeared in the accountability court over corruption references. Safdar has attended the NAB hearings for 14 times so far.

The PML-N lawmaker on Wednesday stressed that the time has come to make former president Pervez Musharraf accountable for saving constitution and the state. Talking to media outside the accountability court, he said, “Our appearances have been completed now we have to launch investigation against Musharraf for his wrong deeds.”
