NAB references: court approves Nawaz, Maryam’s appearance exemption appeals

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court accepted Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz requests to be exempted from personal appearance as they wants to visit the ailing Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

The accountability court hearing three corruption references against Nawaz Sharif and his family, on Wednesday approved the exemption request because of the medical condition of Nawaz’s wife Kulsoon Nawaz, who is undergoing treatment for throat cancer in London.

The court granted exemption from personal appearance one week to Nawaz and one month to Maryam Nawaz. Once the written order of the court is released the starting date of the exemption period will be clarified.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif and his children are facing three corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the directives of Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case.

Nawaz and his two sons, Hussain and Hasan, are nominated in all three references whereas his daughter Maryam and her husband MNA Capt (retd) Safdar are only accused in one.

Moreover, Hussain and Hasan Nawaz were declared proclaimed offenders due to their continuous absence.
