NAB resumes trials against public office holders after SC verdict

ISLAMABAD: After the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the NAB law amendments, the trials of public officials in accountability courts have started again.

The Accountability Court of Karachi rejected former provincial minister and PPP leader Sharjeel Memon’s request regarding the jurisdiction of the court in the Rs5.75 billion corruption case.

The court declared that after the orders of the Supreme Court, the application has become ineffective, adding that the trial of the case will resume from where it stopped.

It noted that witnesses will be summoned and the case proceeded with.

The court said the order of the Supreme Court was received on Tuesday, and it will be followed. The amendments to the NAB law have been nullified, and the Supreme Court’s order has also been issued.

It is worth noting that a few days ago, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued its reserved decision on a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan against amendments to the NAB law and declared several clauses null and void.

Imran Khan has challenged the amendments to the NAB law introduced by the then government of Shehbaz Sharif in 2022, before a three-member special bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
