ISLAMABAD (NNI): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has challenged Accountability Court’s order to release retired Capt. Safdar on bail.
Capt. Safdar, who is former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law, was taken into NAB custody upon his arrival in Pakistan from London on Oct 9. However, the court had ordered his release against security bonds worth Rs5 million.
Today, the NAB petitioned Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the accountability court’s order, impleading accountability court’s judge Muhammad Bashir and Capt. Safdar.
The NAB has asked IHC to suspend the accountability court’s order and send the accused Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on judicial remand.
The NAB petition maintained that an order to release the suspect can only be passed by the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the Accountability Court adjourned the hearing of references against Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Muhammad Safdar till November 7.
