NAB’s EBM approves filing three corruption references

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Thursday accorded approval of filing corruption reference against former Advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation, Mehtab Ahmed Khan, former Secretary Aviation, Division, Erfan Elahi, Muhammad Ali Tabba and others for illegally appointing Musharraf Rasool as Chairman, PIA by abusing their authority and causing losses to national kitty.

The appointment of Musharraf Rasool had already been declared illegal by apex court. According to Spokesman, the EBM chaired by Justice Javed Iqbal accorded approval filing total three references, two inquiries against various suspects.

The EBM has granted its consent to file another corruption reference against Kamran Ali Qureshi, former Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Asad Munir, former Estate, CDA,Khalid Mehmood, former Director Estate and others on involvement in illegal restoration of a plot situated at F-11  , Islamabad by abusing authority inflicting heavy losses to the national kitty.

The EBM accorded approval of filing another reference against Haji Gulzar Khan, former Health Minister, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muhammad Zamurrad Khan, former Conservator, Gilgit Forest Department,Haji Nadeem Khan, Abdus Samad, Muhammad Qasim,Principal Medical Officer and others. They have been accused of illegally issuing passes to seven contractors allowing them free movement and cutting forests sans receiving any fine by abusing their authority thus inflicting Rs 45.73 million losses to the national kitty.

The anti graft watchdog’s EBM has approved conducting two inquiries against Ghulam Muhammad, former Secretary Communication and Works Department, Balochistan, officers, officials of Provincial Highway Division, District Sanghar, Sindh and others.

The EBM has accorded permission to conduct investigations against Asghar Sheikh,former Director General Larkana Development Authority and others.

The EBM approved adding the complaint of alleged transferring suspicious money in the ongoing investigations being conducted against Agha Siraj Durrani, Speaker Sindh Assembly, Waseem Akhtar, Mayor, Karachi, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, former Federal Minister, and Nawab Muhammad Yousaf Talpur. The EBM approved closing inquiry against Dost Muhammad Rahimo, former Provincial Minister for Zakat and Usher, Sindh, and others owing to the absence of evidence.

Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB has termed corruption as the main reason behind all ills being confronted by the country saying NAB was strictly pursuing the policy of zero tolerance. Bureau’s foremost priority was take the mega corruption cases to logical conclusion.

He said NAB is strictly following the policy of Accountability for All. He directed the concerned staff to take complaint verification, investigations and inquiries to logical conclusion within the stipulated time frame.NAB has the first and last affiliation with Pakistan. He directed NAB officers to perform their duties in accordance with law, transparency and by upholding merit.
