ISLAMABAD: National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has reserved every Friday exclusively for issuing Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to females aiming to increase ratio of women voters in electoral rolls, State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry said Wednesday.
Responding to Calling Attention Notice moved by Senator Sehar Kamran, Talal Chaudhry said the regional offices of NADRA have already been directed to register at least 160,000 new women every month in their respective regional offices.
In addition, 14 NADRA registration centres have been reserved for female registration, besides reserving 71 mobile registration vans for making CNICs of women folk.
The minister said 78 new mobile registration vans were also being reserved for the registration of females. Special counters were also being established at various NADRA centres to facilitate maximum registration of female.
He said the government has also chalked out a comprehensive plan to increase the ratio of women voters in electoral rolls, including motivating the men to get their female relatives registered.
He said Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and NADRA has recently launched a campaign to increase ratio of women voters. The help of Ulema, civil society, political parties, media would be sought for increasing the ratio of women voters’ registration.
