Naila Kayani at pinnacle of career after scaling Broad Peak

LAHORE: Pakistan’s mountaineer Naila Kayani has scaled Broad Peak (8,051 meters) creating a history.

Kayani has now climbed all five peaks (higher than 8,000 meters) in Pakistan. She is the first Pakistani woman to achieve this feat. Kayani has accomplished this feat today (Thursday) by climbing 8,051 meters high Broad Peak. Broad Peak is the 12th highest peak in the world.

Kayani had recently made history by climbing the world’s highest peak Mount Everest. She is the first international mountaineer to climb Mount Everest this year in 2023.

Earlier this honour was held by Pakistani mountaineer Samina Baig. In 2013, she became the first Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest. Kayani, a female mountaineer of Pakistan, has also achieved the honour of climbing K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum-I and Gasherbrum-II in Pakistan.

She is also the first Pakistani woman to summit Nanga Parbat, Lhotse, Annapurna and Gasherbrum while she is the first Pakistani woman to summit 8 out of 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.

Kayani belongs to a conservative family from Gujar Khan area of Rawalpindi in Punjab. She has studied Aerospace Engineering from UK and has also worked in this field.

It merits mentioning here that on instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, she was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz for climbing Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. In December 2021, Kayani was given award by President Dr Arif Alvi in recognition of her achievements in mountaineering.
