Naqeebullah case: Inquiry committee submitted report in Supreme Court

KARACHI: The inquiry committee probing the fake encounter in Karachi by suspended SSP Rao Anwar, submitted its report in Supreme Court on Friday at Karachi registry which will hear the suo motu case.

A 27 year-old resident of Wazristan identified as Naqeebullah Mehsud, was among four persons who were killed in an ‘exchange of fire’ on January 13 in Shah Latif Town of Karachi and the team was led by Malir SSP Rao Anwar.

The family and social workers started protest against it and demand justice for the innocent Naqeebullah and after that an inquiry committee was formed after which Anwar and the raiding police party officials went into hiding and they were suspended.

The inquiry committee headed AIG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Sanaullah Abbasi, informed the Supreme Court in its 15 page report that Naqeebullah was picked up from Sohrab Goth on January 3 along with two others.

The two people picked up with him were let go after giving bribes, the report states, adding that their statements have been recorded and made part of the investigation.

It adds that all the officials involved in the incident have gone into hiding.
