Naqeembullah case: ATC indicts former SSP Rao Anwar, others

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) hearing Naqeebullah murder case, has indicted former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar and others on Monday.

According to details, former SSP Malir, Rao Anwar is accused of being involved in the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud — an aspiring model and shopkeeper from South Waziristan and three others in a fake police encounter in Karachi

Anwar and other accused appeared before the court for the today’s hearing in the ATC.

The judge indicted Rao Anwar and other accused in the case, while the accused refused to accept charges.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 11 and summoned witnesses and applicant in the case.

Thirteen policemen are on the judicial remand in the case and five accused named in the case former SSP Rao Anwar, DSP Qamar are on the bail.

Last year on January 13, Rao Anwar had claimed to have shot dead four members of the defunct Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an encounter near Shah Latif Town in Karachi.

Family members of one of the killed suspects, Naqeebullah Mehsud, claimed that he was killed in a fake encounter, triggering widespread public outrage.
