Nawaz Sharif appears before accountability court in remaining two corruption cases

ISLAMABAD: The imprisoned former prime minister Nawaz Sharif appeared before an accountability court in Islamabad, to attend the hearing of the remaining two corruption cases against him and his family on Monday.

According to details, Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik is hearing the Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references and earlier on Friday, Judge Malik had submitted a written request to the Supreme Court seeking the fifth extension in Sharif’s trial.

Later, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan has ordered of six weeks extensions for concluding the remaining two cases against the Sharif family.

Nawaz and his sons, Hussain and Hasan, are accused in all three references whereas Maryam and Safdar were accused in the Avenfield reference only.

The two brothers, based abroad, have been absconding since the proceedings began last year and were declared proclaimed offenders by the court.
