NDS held would-be suicide bombers group
JALALABAD: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives arrested a seven-member group of would-be suicide bombers in Jalalabad city, capital of Nangarhar province, officials said on Thursday.
The group wanted to conduct suicide attacks in the ceremonies of the 99th independence of Afghanistan and upcoming Eidul Adha, Nangarhar Governor Hayatullah Hayat said.
Talking to reporters, Hayat said the would-be suicide bombers belonged to the Islamic State. One of them was identified as Bashirullah alias Ibrahim. He was held along with a suicide vest, Hayat added.
Meanwhile, provincial governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khugiyani told AIP that the members of the group had been given various tasks. Some of them were tasked with taking explosives to Jalalabad city.
The Islamic State or Daesh has not said anything in this regard so far.
Special police and ANA troops have been deployed in Jalalabad city owing to the recent wave of insecurity. The security forces have increased search on the entry and exit routes of the city. It has improved the security of the city. The local residents are happy with the step taken by the government.
