Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program – Trial Day 02

Karachi: The second day of the Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program was as busy as day one with a large number of talented kids turning up for the trials at the TMC Cricket Ground. More than 500 kids appeared today aiming to be the next superstar of Karachi cricket.

Karachi – the city of cricket has produced many big international cricket stars that are role models for young cricketers. These players have instilled passion in thousands of young players, driving them to make a name for themselves in the international circuit. The Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program, conceived by Mr Majjid Bashir Ahmed, Honorary Counsel of South Africa in Karachi and the South African High Commission in Pakistan, are reinforcing this very idea to the next generation of kids in Karachi- to work hard and pursue your passion.

Players brought their very best to the trials as the kids were seen emulating legends of the game with the likes of Babar Azam, Rashid Khan and Shadab Khan. Batter Mohammad Nizam said, “Babar Azam is my idol, he is a great player and I want to be like him one day making my country proud.”

Speedster Asad Umer mentioned: “I have been playing cricket since I was a child but my interest was developed when I saw Dale Steyn bowling. I take inspiration from Mohammad Hasnain, he is quick and I am highly thankful to Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program for this opportunity.”

Speaking highly of the program, upcoming star Sajid Khan added, “I admire Shadab Khan, my leg-break is quite good and now I have learnt Googly as well. The whole program is top notch especially the coaches are experienced and professional, I have enjoyed my time here.”

Tomorrow will mark the final day of the three – days trial program. At the end of the trials, 60 players will be shortlisted for the next round which will lead to 15 finalists travelling to South Africa for training.
