Nepra increases electricity prices by Rs3.99 per unit

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Increasing the burden of inflation on consumers, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Tuesday gave approval to increase electricity tariff price by Rs3.99.

The recommendation was to increase by Rs8 per unit from July 1 this year but Nepra increased Rs3.99 per tariff power tariff increase.

The government has started taking ‘difficult decisions’ adhering to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demands to end the subsidies on fuel, electricity and food items for the release of $1 billion loan tranche.

Pertinent to note that the prices of fuel have already been jacked up by Rs30 per litre in line with the international lender’s demand.
